I wish to add on to Ray's restaurant reviews:
Weegols Grillhaus, Montilla Blvd
Aside from the bbq'd
chicken leg which came with rice and atsara,
we also ordered sizzling squid and kangkong with oyster
sauce, all of which were tasty. For dessert, we had
buko-halo, which was "butong" with it's top cut off and
the water taken out and filled with halo-halo and
topped with ubi ice cream (or any flavour ice cream you
like). After eating the ice cream and the halo-halo,
then finally you get to the tender young coconut meat.
This dessert could be a "merienda" all by itself. Delicious!
On another occasion, we (25 family members) to a
late dinner at the Narra Restaurant and ordered a few
"bandehados" of lomi, pancit bihon, stir-fried
chicken breast with four-seasons vegetables and another
chicken dish with young corn and carrots. Again,
the food was tasty, and the service was good.
We did try Tita's siopao and mami
one day after church and they tasted as good as
Ma Mon Luk's siopao and mami, way back in Manila in
those days, so don't worry Ray, your good memories of
Tita's will stay that way.
Also, classmates invited me and another balikbayan
classmate to dinner one evening at Uncle Sam's,
which was owned by my classmate's son-in-law,
Sam Amante. She ordered sizzling blue marlin, kinilaw,
calderetta, pancit canton and deep-fried chicharon.
Everything was good especially the deep-fried
chicharon, which the guys could not stop eating as
"pulutan" with their beer.
I regret not having tried Joven's Grill, which I've
heard is the only restaurant that offers "buffet" in Butuan.
If there's any Butuanon who has dined there, please
share your comments in the guestbook.
