I gave up on the last episode - fr me the last 3 or 4 were going downhill - they might have been a bit too ‘arty’ for what was originally a straight, easy to watch cops and robbers format with a bit of humour and eye candy.

Cuts I’ve spotted in the itv version in episode 2 include one for language (again not surprising), and the scene in Reynolds flat was heavily edited, notably the part when Dempsey slaps Reynolds and he crashes into the drinks trolley whilst Makepeace shouts “Dempsey you’re out of order” was missing completely. Looks like a fair amount was cut from the ITV4 showings.

Have they found the break bumpers for Forces TV then?

Interesting ITV 4 show The Professionals break bumpers though.

That’s another thing, I’ve only watched the pilot and episode 2 on Forces so far, episode 2 had 3 ad breaks but two of them were in the same place as the original ITV showings as cue dots appeared just before the ads. Despite three sets of ads I still timed episode 2 at 48 minutes as there were no ads and minimal trailers between the end of the show and the start of the following programme.

I'm a bit annoyed that ITV cut the episodes but FTV is showing it properly. Since our Sky box went up the swannee I can only watch Sky Go on the playstion or tablet and they don't have FTV on that platform.

    That is a bummer.

It is a bit. Can't get Talking Pictures TV either and I used to love watching that, I liked seeing the b&w films and the rarely repeated series they show on there.

No freeview then? Even without COM7 for Forces you’d get TPTV on there.

Random cut from episode 3-after Rosalyn is shot the camera pans back to a closeup shot of her body as the two men run back downstairs-this shot was missing from ITV.

Selected cuts from episode 6 ( Nowhere To Run).

In the van Piglet starts rolling the drugs then it cuts straight to them blowing out of the window. The whole section of dialogue where Eddie asks what he was doing with them and what would have happened if they’d been stopped is missing.

Predictable cuts for language when Messad pulls a gun on Marshall and tells the others to unload the van, and again when Marshall escapes from the car.

In the recording studio when the sound engineer/producer (whichever one he was) says “This ones got words has it”?, Christy turns round and flips him the finger. This of course was also missing from ITV as it cuts from the question to Christy opening the door.

Haven’t been through the rest of this episode yet, what I’ve been doing with this and others is watching Forces for scenes which would obviously, or likely to, have been cut from ITV and checking whether they were or not. When I get some more time I’ll try to do some more detailed comparisons.

I finally got around to watching the pilot ep last night after having not seen it for years. I was surprised at how good it was, and how closely it resembled the actual series - many pilots are vastly different from their series, but this one felt familiar. The characters are pretty much how they were in the series (except Coltrain, obviously - he was played by a different actor in the pilot ep), and the chemistry between Dempsey and Makepeace was evident from the start.

I loved the whole 'Sam and Sharon Johnson' thing - the scene where they're at the party and 'Sam' has the other guests on his side as he laments that 'Sharon' doesn't love him anymore is brilliant!

Cuts from “Cry God For Harry” (s1 ep 9). Apart from the expected language cut for “bastard” it seems even “bloody” is too strong for ITV4 in the afternoon...at least sometimes! Spikings tells Makepeace to “take that bloody Yank with you”, which becomes simply “take that Yank with you”. However later on when Dempsey suits up with the diving gear and tells Makepeace to shut up, her response of “go jump in the bloody.....” wasn’t cut.

During the pheasant shoot Harry’s father takes a shot, then a shot of a dead pheasant hitting the ground was removed.

The fight sequence in the lake was trimmed, with the shot of Dempsey holding Chen underwater for several seconds missing.

I loved this as a kid, I don’t think I watched it first time round but later. It does seem heavily cut. Sounds mad but it snowed in London in those days, not that long ago. It’s interesting to see south London looking undeveloped and their posh houses! Goodness the chemistry between the actors, I was too young to notice but certainly visible as an adult. I wonders what they’ll cut from Tequilla Sunset, isn’t that the one with Makepeace drunk?

For clarity it’s more a case of what was cut, as the cuts I describe were made in the ITV4 screenings a few weeks ago. Tequila Sunrise is due on Forces next Monday so once they’ve shown it I’ll be able to do my comparison and see if trimmed anything,

As to tonight’s episode (Judgement), when D and M are talking to Sir Lionel there was a trim to one of the flashback shots of Sarah. On Forces he says “there must be witnesses.....there must be clues....”. We then see a wide angle shot of Sarah with blood on her clothes and the camera zooms in to a close up of her face as the dialogue continues with “.....on her clothes”. On ITV you only saw the close up, with the zoom-in and “on her clothes” missing.

After this, when Harry criticises the way in which Dempsey spoke to Sir Lionel, as expected there was a cut for “you stupid bastard“. On ITV there was an obvious jump in the film where the line was removed, although to be fair it would have been impossible to disguise this edit without removing more of the scene.

I wasn't aware that 'bastard' was a swear word! I've always thought it a legitimate word to describe the illegitimate !

Forces TV are screening this programme at 10pm (from 9pm at weekends), so cutting out that word seems a bit OTT to me.

Some of you still seem to be misinterpreting my posts so I’ll spell it out again.....the cuts I’m describing were made in the recent ITV4 afternoon showings, NOT in the Forces 10.00pm screenings, so when a character says bastard it was cut by ITV but was heard in full on Forces.

And that's exactly how it should be shown. They can show the itv Global logo AFTER the LWT Production endcap if they wish.

It puzzles me why itv are so embarrassed by their past.

    “Wheelman” ITV cuts:

When the car enters the arcade and they spot Harry and Spikings, the dialogue is “Thats Debbie”. “They’re cops you bastard. Drive! Drive”!, followed by a close up of Dempsey at the wheel. On ITV it cuts from “Thats Debbie” to the close up.

When Micky tips the table over Spikings aims and shoots him and he (Micky) falls backwards. On ITV it cuts when Spikings aims and you don’t actually see him shoot, or Micky being hit, as it jumps straight to the look of relief on Harry’s face.

Due to other commitments I’ve not had time to compare the ITV4 screenings with the last few Forces episodes for cuts, but hope to review some of them in the next few days. Meanwhile here’s a little continuity error from “The Hit”, last nights Forces episode. When Dempsey and Harry jump in the Daimler and set off in pursuit of Delaney, the front number plate is flapping around and hanging on by one screw, but when they catch up with him it’s reattached itself and is fixed firmly in the correct position......

Epg has an episode listed at 10.00pm Monday ( which should be series 2 ep 10, “The Bogeyman”), but series link from tonight’s episode has linked to Tuesday instead. Have added Monday night in as a separate recording, not sure why it’s playing up.

The tapes of 'Enemy At The Door' supplied to Talking Pictures have a simliar 'Identity' problem, being purple 'Granada', but not 'Granada Colour Production'!

(Enemy At The Door was LWT originally!)

I understand from family history Daimler in The Hit was driven by my grandfather who was a chauffeur. Before it was used in Dempsey and Makepeace of course!
