Where is the fuse layout? ›

Engine fuse boxes are typically situated near the battery. In this vehicle, the battery is on the driver's side, and there is a fuse box right above it with a black plastic cover to protect the fuses. On the passenger side, there is also a battery, and the fuse box is located nearby.

Your fuse box will have two sets of fuses. At the bottom will be 15-amp and 20-amp screw-in fuses with glass faces that are exposed and visible. These fuses will service branch light circuits and outlet circuits. At the top will be 30-amp or 40-amp cartridge main fuses for ovens, laundry rooms, or stoves.

The vehicle's fuses are located in two fuse boxes.

The fuse panel is supposed to be behind the dash board. Follow the large harness that goes through the firewall and that will lead you to it.

In most cases, the main fuse box is situated under the hood, near the battery, while secondary panels can be found in the passenger compartment, often hidden behind a removable panel.

Most vehicles have two fuse boxes, with one under the hood and the other in the cabin. You can usually find the other fuse box in the dashboard on the driver's side, but some manufacturers also place it below the glove box. If the interior fuse box isn't there, you can try checking the luggage compartment.

Inspect each fuse using a flashlight to find the one that is burned or melted (the working fuses will have a clear glass casing but the blown one will look cloudy or blackened).

A switched fuse is one that only has power when the ignition is turned on, while a constant fuse always has power.

The first thing to do is find your main fuse box (these days called a consumer unit), which will be in the same place as your electricity meter. They're often in the main hallway of a house, in a purpose-built cupboard.

Basem*nt or Utility Room

In many homes, especially older ones, the fuse box is often located in the basem*nt, under the stairs or a utility room.

Place the meter leads on either side of the fuse. If there is little to no voltage indicated, the fuse is good. However, if there's a difference in voltage (typically the full supply voltage), then the fuse is bad.

The best place to install a fuse in a grounded power system is on the ungrounded conductor path to the load. That way, when the fuse blows there will only be the grounded (safe) conductor still connected to the load, making it safer for people to be around.
