Bhavik J Unreal and Realistic.Yes, that is the absolutely accurate description of this film by Martin McDonagh which has put something out there that should've been there very long ago.The story is set on a mother, Mildred, who after countless efforts to find the rapist and murderer of her daughter, embarks on a mission to do the dirty work herself by publicly humiliating the negligence of the chief of the police, Willoughby, through three billboards on a driveway. The hardships that Mildred faces by such actions, along with her son's resentment and the burden of an unending self-guilt drives her to a level of madness that unravels slowly and extremely comically through the course of the film. The film, presents a very hilarious take on the concept of sexual abuse and primarily on how we as a society treat it and the commendable part is how the script never, in any way, mocks the victim or offends them. The dynamic of Mildred and Dixon is definitely worth a watch. The film shocks the viewers time and again, with its unrealistic twists in a very realistic flow of actions. It is suffice to say, that each character, be it Willoughby's wife or the billboards' manager, Red Welby, has as much to add to the story as the main characters themselves. I'd also like to give 5 stars to the background score which makes the watchability of this movie increase exponentially. And lastly, we have Frances McDormand, who plays the character of Mildred in the movie. With such prowess in her art, she has brought this act to the place it was meant to be. That Oscar was very well deserved and I'm sure that it was that one scene where she screams at her son, Robbie, with all her might , which got the statuette to her. At least I had goosebumps. Because isn't that what we do? Bottle up our frustration over all those times we couldn't let it out and then burst it at one go, no matter the consequences. All in all, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is a must watch, even if you don't have a taste for dark comedies. The state police and/or FBI would quickly take this investigation. That doesn’t happen, but the state DOES come in to run the department when the chief dies? Sure2. We’re supposed to believe high school students and their parents will side with a police department and not the mother of their murdered classmate? On which planet is this?3. Police chief speaking to obvious suspect of arson, on the street, a stones throw from the active fire and just believes her when she tells him she didn’t do it. 4. A PD building without a fire exit. This list could go much longer, but I’ll just add… if you’re going to end your own life, think it through and assure it won’t be a family member who finds you. Pluspoints: Woody Harrelson acting and the cinematography.A LOT OFF scenes were ridiculous: e.g. policemen who threws out citizen with 10 witnesses, no arrest whatshowever.Later he ends up in the hospital next to that guy, and they frame us that love is the answer here. You feel that the city only exist off about 10 people who are always right on time to fit in some ridiculous plothole. SPOILER - At the end when you finally hope that you get some action, you get an open ending leaving you completely unsatisfied.
